Suspension is one of the most misunderstood parts of a
motorcycle. It's also one of the areas where the largest
improvements can be made. For most bikes the approach is the
same. Here is what I suggest depending on your type of riding.
Street
Riders (forks)
The
start to any good suspension setup is having the proper spring
rate. For street and trackday riders the biggest gains are
found on the compression side of the damping. For that an
upgrade to the compression pistons does the trick. I also
reshim the stock rebound valves to create a balanced setup.

Street
Riders (shock)
Once
again, the spring rate needs to be correct. Something that is
often overlooked by street riders is revalving of the stock shock on
your bike. You don't need to spend $1000 or more on an
aftermarket shock, you can get the same level of performance from a
properly setup stock shock.

Race
Only
Racers
are looking to shave tenths of a second off their lap times.
For that you need to capture that last bit of available
performance. For these applications upgrades to the rebound
side of the forks is useful. If an aftermarket shock is used,
getting the valving setup for your weight can really make it work to
best potential. The internal valving is not always setup specifically
for you when the shock is bought new.
